Case Study: Increasing student safety with LED lighting at the University of Central Lancashire
Staff at the University of Central Lancashire’s Preston Campus have taken steps to improve safety for students and staff by installing a scheme of attractive street bollards which incorporate the latest in LED lighting.
Safety Issues From Poor Lighting
Poor levels of lighting in the area had resulted in safety issues and a solution had been sought in order to both address this and improve the level of energy consumption and increase the reliability of the lighting scheme.
Mainlight’s expertise was called upon to propose a cost effective solution and after a survey of the area and with regard to the budget available, Mainlight designed and installed a scheme of modern LED illuminated bollard lighting at strategic locations on the campus.
LED Technology Provide 60% Energy Savings
The benefits of the installation include an enhanced level of lighting from the latest LED technology which makes the area safer for students whilst providing a 60% energy saving which will benefit the university budget. Moreover, Mainlight have provided a 5 Years parts and labour warranty reducing future maintenance costs.
Chris Mcerlain, Libraries Security Officer at UCLAN commented:
“We are getting lots of positive feedback from students regarding the new external lights. Students feel much safer at night when catching the bus. Thumbs up to all involved”
